    About “Sarat Chandra Chattopadhyay

    1. Sarat Chandra Chattopadhyay says:

Complete works of Sarat Chandra is now available in this third party website sarat rachanabalics iSarat Chandra Chattopadhyay also spelt Saratchandra Bengali was a legendary Bengali novelist from India He was one of the most popular Bengali novelists of the early 20th century. His childhood and youth were spent in dire poverty as his father, Motilal Chattopadhyay, was an idler and dreamer and gave little security to his five children Saratchandra received very little formal education but inherited something valuable from his father his imagination and love of literature. He started writing in his early teens and two stories written then have survived Korel and Kashinath Saratchandra came to maturity at a time when the national movement was gaining momentum together with an awakening of social consciousness.Much of his writing bears the mark of the resultant turbulence of society A prolific writer, he found the novel an apt medium for depicting this and, in his hands, it became a powerful weapon of social and political reform.Sensitive and daring, his novels captivated the hearts and minds of thousands of readers not only in Bengal but all over India. Some of his best known novels are Palli Samaj 1916 , Charitraheen 1917 , Devdas 1917 , Nishkriti 1917 , Srikanta in four parts 1917, 1918, 1927 and 1933 , Griha Daha 1920 , Sesh Prasna 1929 and Sesher Parichay published posthumously 1939 My literary debt is not limited to my predecessors only I m forever indebted to the deprived, ordinary people who give this world everything they have and yet receive nothing in return, to the weak and oppressed people whose tears nobody bothers to notice and to the endlessly hassled, distressed weighed down by life and helpless people who don t even have a moment to think that despite having everything, they have right to nothing They made me start to speak They inspired me to take up their case and plead for them I have witnessed endless injustice to these people, unfair intolerable indiscriminate justice It s true that springs do come to this world for some full of beauty and wealth with its sweet smelling breeze perfumed with newly bloomed flowers and spiced with cuckoo s song, but such good things remained well outside the sphere where my sight remained imprisoned This poverty abounds in my writings.

huh.(those days)প্রথ [...]

    3. This book might be a revered creation a century ago when it was written, but today it is not at all relevant in any socio-political aspect. The first sign of a masterpiece is that it should not lose its relevance even after centuries. So I think this book lost a lot of point based on this criteria alone. Secondly the story, the character, the narration are all incoherent and jumbled up. A very poor book which had no impact on me, the moment I finished it (or even after that).

    4. perhaps because the Hindi translation from bangla wasn't good, but the book seemed laborious. kiranmayee's character is difficult to understand and the long winded conversations do not help at all. the only characters I did like were that of satish and sarojini. glad they got married in the end

    5. किरदारों का चरित्र अंत तक स्पष्ट नहीं हुआ या यह मेरी अक्षमता रही l

    6. This is my third novel by Sarat Chandra in last four months, and it is another great story. The female characters of Sarat Chandra's stories are so complex, they have so many layers that even after finishing the book there remains a mystery around them, and they stay with the readers long afterwards. After finishing Charitraheen, I am thinking about the characters and have one question, can I judge any of them? If only, it were that simple.

    8. Shows Sarad Babu's capacity as a prolific author. For the first time he seem to have produce characters which are mature in Love psychology. Typical love dilemmas of conservative Indian society. A veritable drama of love and sacrifice by the Feminist author. The choice of title itself is intriguing and interesting. One tends to think while reading as to who actually is the bad-character and then each and every character seems to be colored with sin only to be found in the end that no one is Char [...]

    9. I was much interested in reading the book after seeing the teleserial. A Saratchandra classic, again about unrequited love and in its place, total devotion. Some mysterious elements. Story seems to go astray after 3/4th mark.

    10. Every book is relevent or irrelevent it depends on society to which it relate or not This book is very much relivent in present tense. We should have eye to see point which it has sated.

    11. আমার পড়া শরৎচন্দ্রের প্রথম উপন্যাস। ভালই লেগেছে।

    12. Speechless Can't express in words how beautifully he has written the thoughts of a girl who is so called charitaheen
