    1. This volume seems to have received much criticism since its publication, but the scholarship that went into writing it is impressive. It's tiresomely easy to criticise scholars of an earlier generation for their preoccupations and perspectives. I think Haskell did a marvellous job pulling all this together in one volume.

    2. Useful, but pretty dry. Also, the index could be way better organized-- it was at times difficult to find the information. Overall, a good in depth look at the socioeconomic relationship between patrons and painters during the Baroque.
