    2. This book is one the most heartbreaking, annoying, frustrating and real I've had the chance to read. When I started the book, I endeavoured getting in the story, but I think that was what the author wanted the reader to feel. In that way we could feel the dullness they felt, the emptiness of their lives.Once i get in, it just blew my mind away. I misliked April at first but ended up loving her because she is so true to herself that it is unbearable. I pitied Frank at first to finally dispised him [...]

    4. An accurate, lively and well constructed picture of life at a boy's prepschool just before WW II. Within this framework, the story follows a variety of interacting characters, whether students or teatchers, surprisingly resulting in a true page turner. Quite commendable reading by a great, well known novelist.

    7. TRÈS BIEN ; BIEN ÉCRIT ; PERSONNAGES CRÉDIBLES ; INTRIGUE PRENANTE ; TÉMOIGNAGE D'UNE ÉPOQUE . JE RECOMMANDE LA LECTURE .

    8. Tragedy set in the Hopperesque post WWII North America. Excellent character portrayals with acute study of male and female motivation. Much superior to the recent film adapted from Yates's book.
